Dear Members and Friends,
As I step into the role of Master, I am filled with a sense of humility and responsibility. Reflecting on my journey, it’s incredible to think it all began at the Sheep Drive. This experience reminds me of the power of traditions to shape and inspire our future.
This year will be marked by significant changes, beginning with the relocation of our admission courts bringing them into Livery Halls. This adjustment is a reflection of our commitment to evolving and improving our Guild. I am dedicated to making this year one of positive transformation and renewed energy.
I am passionate about supporting charities that make a difference. As someone living with multiple sclerosis, the MS Trust is a cause close to my heart. Their work is vital for those affected by this condition. Additionally, Birth Companions, which supports pregnant women and new mothers in difficult situations, is another cause I am proud to support. I am delighted to share that we raised £300 at the Summer Garden Party for our charity efforts.
Our events are the cornerstone of our Guild, offering opportunities for fellowship and celebration. I encourage all of you to join us at these special gatherings:
• Sheep Drive: A cherished tradition that remains dear to me. Join us on 29th September at Southwark Bridge for this unique event that raises funds for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and the Woolmen’s Charitable Trust.
• Annual Banquet: Held on 18th October at Saddlers’ Hall, this glittering evening promises fabulous hospitality and a chance to enjoy the company of fellow members.(Tickets to be released soon)
• Lord Mayor’s Show: On 9th November, participate in the world’s oldest civic procession and experience the grandeur of this historic event.
• Spring Mingle: Next spring, we will host an event where new and old members of the Guild of Young Freemen, formerly known as the Society of Young Freemen, can come together to celebrate our shared heritage and look forward to our future.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Wardens, the Court, committee members, and all who contribute to the success of our Guild. Your dedication and hard work make everything we do possible, and I am grateful for your unwavering support.
Your participation in these events not only strengthens our bonds but also supports our charitable efforts. Let’s make this year one of positive change and community spirit. Together, we can honour our past and shape our future.
Grace Abba
