A Virtual Farewell

May 29, 2020

The final event of the year is traditionally a farewell to the outgoing Master, celebrating the theme of their year as well as a chance for them to share their final thoughts from the year in office.

Normally this might take place at the City University Club, a frequent venue for Guild events, or a venue in the City with some personal connection to the outgoing Master. Instead, due to the lockdown, the Guild took the Master’s plan for a “fireside chat” with our newly installed President (Alderman Timothy Hailes JP) online and hosted the first of our virtual ‘In Conversation With…’ events.

The outgoing Master for 2019 – 2020, Mr Anjola Adeniyi, welcomed Alderman Hailes and Guild members to a spirited and thoroughly interesting discussion on the role of the City and Livery, with several thought-provoking takeaways for those attending, as well as hearing about the fascinating life and times in the City of London of our new President.

The outgoing Master had also announced a special charity fundraiser in the leadup to the event, and was proud to deckare that, for his final event, Guild members had raised a total of £500.00 to be donated to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. A fitting farewell for our Master 2019 – 2020, whose theme of ‘Family and Inclusion’ led to a thoroughly engaging programme of events for the membership and a very memorable banquet.
