Sheep Drive and Livery Fair 2025

Oct 8, 2025

Letter from the Master Young Freeman:

Dear Friends,

I write following the 2025 Sheep Drive and Livery, where the Guild of Young Freemen was once again proud to play its part in this much-loved civic occasion.

First, I must acknowledge the leadership of our Honorary President, Alastair John Naisbitt King, the Lord Mayor of the City of London. His exemplary commitment to the Livery Movement continues to inspire the Guild, and it was a privilege to welcome him at the Fair, with the Guild providing the largest number of volunteers in the history of the Sheep Drive since its inception in 2014. I had the great pleasure to take part in the VIP drive with Lady Mayoress and fellow Young Freeman Florence King.

Second, the day was marked by outstanding engagement between cadets and the participating Livery Companies. It was heartening to see traditions and skills shared so openly, and to witness the next generation learning from centuries of craft and civic service.

Third, the Guild remains determined to continue advising the organisers of the Sheep Drive. With the lessons learned by our team on the ground, we look forward to contributing ideas so that next year’s event can be even more pleasant for all participants.

The Guild of Young Freemen is proud to support an event that enables all to exercise their ancient rights, to engage in the life of the City, and to ensure that its traditions continue to thrive.

We extend our gratitude to the many Livery Companies who presented at the Fair, namely the Bakers, Basketmakers, Bishopsland (with the Clothworkers’ Company), Fletchers, Turners, Upholders, Weavers, and Wheelwrights. Their generosity, skill, and dedication brought the day to life.

With thanks and best wishes,

Reuben Branden-Bell

Master (2025-2026)
