Remembrance in the City of London

Nov 10, 2019

As it is across the United Kingdom, Remembrance in the City of London is a solemn and important occassion, where the whole City comes together in gratitude and to honour the memory of those who serve to defend us all.

There are two main functions which the Guild of Young Freemen is very privileged to send representatives to:

The Royal British Legion Garden of Remembrance

RBL Garden of Remembrance 2019

Held in the churchyard of St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal British Legion Garden of Remembrance brings together the Lord Mayor, Sheriffs, Aldermen, Livery Companies, Guilds, Emergency and Uniformed Services, and Armed Forces for a service. After the service, those assembled plant crosses in the church garden.

The City of London Service of Remembrance at St Paul’s Cathedral

Organised by the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, a more traditional service of remembrance is held on Remembrance Sunday at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Much like the Lord Mayor’s Show, the assembled Masters and their Clerks process from the cathedral to the Royal Exchange to lay wreaths and watch a march past by the Honourable Artillery Company; a rare treat for those in attendance!
