The Guild is very privileged to offer its members the opportunity to take an active part in the City of London’s Livery Calendar.  The extensive programme of events changes year on year to reflect the Master’s theme and Livery Company. Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

23rd March 2020

In light of the ongoing public health emergency the Guild has taken the decision to cancel all scheduled in-person events until further notice. We hope to provide further updates as appropriate in the near future.

For further information on coronavirus (COVID-19), including guidance on how to avoid catching it or spreading it, please see the NHS website or government website.

The Master, Wardens, and Court of Assistants urge you all to keep safe, act responsibly, and face these troubling times with all the pluck and good spirit that is the hallmark of a good Young Freeman.

Events Programme 2019 – 2020

Join other members of the Guild to welcome the newly installed Master with a relaxing garden party in the grounds of the Guild's church, with a guest judge from the Bakers’ Company for the charity bake-off. Entries to the competition are £5.00 per entry with all proceeds going directly to the Guild's Charity.

As with all Guild events the garden party is open to friends, family, and other guests.

A highlight of the social season and undoubtedly the best-known regatta in the world; join fellow members for a great day of racing and pageantry in the splendid surroundings of Phyllis Court Club.

The City Music Foundation hosts this celebration of beer, music, and food to support gifted musicians in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Brewers, with proceeds going to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

This year's Installation Banquet will be held at Apothecaries' Hall by kind permission of the Master and Wardens of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. We are thrilled to announce that our patron The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress will be in attendance to give a keynote speech - we expect tickets will sell out fast for this event so book early to avoid disappointment.

The evening will consist of a drinks reception, followed by a sumptuous 3 course dinner with wines, port, coffee, and chocolates; the dress code is black tie with decorations, national dress, or mess dress for serving officers. We hope as many of you are able to join us as possible for what will no doubt be a tremendously enjoyable evening.

We are delighted to offer members of the Young Freemen a tour of this fabulous building, London's Central Criminal Court directed by Aldermanic Sheriff Liz Green. The tour will start from the Lord Mayor's Entrance and proceed through the building uncovering the fascinating history and modern role of the Old Bailey.

Fishmongers' Hall, London Bridge, EC4R 9EL
8:30am - 6:00pm, Sunday 29th September

The Sheep Drive is a major City event involving some 600 Freemen of the City of London crossing the bridge with their sheep, raising thousands of pounds for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and the Woolmens' Charitable Trust, and the Guild has a vital part to play in this event. As marshals the Young Freemen will be the public face of the Sheep Drive, leading people across the bridge, dressed in their scarlet robes. Coverage of the event is global with images syndicated across the world.

The event is free for Young Freemen and their guests, and includes breakfast and a hot lunch. A standout event in our year, this event is truly one of a kind and not to be missed.

The Vestry, St Michael's Cornhill, Monument, EC3V 9DS

The Lord Mayor’s Show is the world’s oldest civic procession and the Guild is very privileged to play such a prominent role by escorting the giant statues of Gog and Magog, the ancient defenders of the City, under the watchful eye of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.

The day will begin with an early breakfast in the Vestry of St Michael's Cornhill (8:30am sharp), after which members and guests will robe and make their way to the float for the Procession which will pause on the Embankment for some much needed libation around midday, before returning to the Guildhall where the Giants are displayed. After this, there will be an opportunity to watch the end of the parade whilst we make our way back to the vestry to deposit robes before rounding off what is expected to be a superb day with a canapes and drinks reception at the City University Club.

Places are limited owing to the unprecedented size of the procession and demand for tickets, so do please book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

The carol service is a hugely popular event in the Guild's programme; hosted at the Guild's church and featuring a reading by the Master, members and friends find this event a highlight of the season.

The service will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies, and further drinks in a nearby establishment for those who wish to continue the festivities. We very much hope that members and their guests will be able join us to celebrate Christmas and our last event of the calendar year in the festive good cheer only Young Freemen know!

To welcome members and their guests into the New Year and to catch up on each of your festive frolics, we hope you will join us for a thoroughly enlightening tour of a City gem, the historic Guildhall, at 3pm on Saturday 25th January.

Following the 90-minute guided tour and ample viewing opportunity for exploring further individual interests, we will decamp to a nearby wine bar for further informal discussions about the Guild of Young Freemen and the Livery movement for those who are interested in becoming a part of the rich City traditions.

Prospective members are very much encouraged to attend this introductory event.

The Guild of Young Freemen invite you to join us for an evening of tremendously fun and friendly competition in the surroundings of the Guildhall Club at the annual Young Livery Inter-Livery Quiz. The event is a great opportunity to meet young members of several of the Livery Companies, and all proceeds will be donated to the charity of the winning team.

Teams of six will enjoy a pre-quiz drinks reception followed by a professionally run quiz by Quiz Coconut, with food and drinks served throughout.

The Worshipful Company of Poulters organise this frenetic event to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, and the Guild is privileged to enter a team of four each year. The races are organised into four categories: The Masters' Race; The Members' Race; The Ladies' Race; and The Novelty Race, with a further prize awarded to the fastest time.

The races are followed by a hot luncheon in the Crypt provided by The Cook and The Butler offering racers a chance to network with all the represented Livery Companies.

The annual service celebrating the Guilds' and Liveries' contribution to the City, with a colourful procession of Masters and the Lord Mayor in State; a truly memorable event. First run at the suggestion of the Liveries after the Blitz it was hoped that the pageantry of the City would lift the spirits of the people, and the service has become a yearly fixture ever since.

Those attending will be loaned ceremonial robes for the occasion. This service provides an incredible opportunity to see St. Paul's Cathedral in action with it's superb organ and choir. Due to the limited provision of tickets we encourage you to book early to ensure your place.

This year sees the 12th annual Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch held at the historic Guildhall in the heart of the City. The Lunch unites the City of London to show their support for members of the Armed Forces and Veterans through the three National Service Charities; ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

The event is attended by a royal guest of honour along with senior officers of the services and the Secretary of State for Defence. Tickets include unlimited curry, beer, and wine, and the Guild is pleased to be able to offer a limited number of subsidised tickets through the generosity of our Livery partners. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Members of the Guild are invited to attend a virtual networking evening with members of the Master's Mother Livery, the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists. This will be an opportunity to hear all about the Company and its activities, as well as a chance to catch up with other Young Freemen.

We are delighted that representatives of WCIT will give a short talk about the Company and its activities, and on the ways that Young Freemen can get involved with the Livery.

Join us for an evening with our President, Alderman Hailes, who will discuss his time and life in the City of London - this is certain to be a fascinating event! We will aslo be bidding a fond farewell to the outgoing Master at the final event of his year before the installation of the new Master.

We are also running a fundraiser for the Lord Mayor's Appeal charities, details of which can be found HERE: the Guild will be making a donation alongside any amount raised by the members, and we will announce the total raised at the end of the event. We encourage you to give generously!

Kicking off the new Master's year in virtual style, we are delighted to be hosting a joint event with the Master's Mother Livery, the Worshipful Company of Educators. This will be an opportunity to hear all about the Company and its activities, as well as a chance to catch up with other Young Freemen.
